2 SE Minnesota schools recognized as ‘Schools of Excellence’

(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) announced two southeast Minnesota schools have been validated as a Minnesota School of Excellence.
Kasson-Mantorville Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary in Albert Lea are two of only four schools that were recognized in the state.
MESPA says the Minnesota School of Excellence is a research-based program aligned with standards in leadership, vision, student learning, the culture of adult learning, data and decision-making, and community engagement.
“Through the Minnesota School of Excellence (SOE) program, grounded in national research on
high-performing schools, MESPA has created the premier opportunity in the state for validating
excellence and a commitment to continual growth in a school community,” said Jon Millerhagen, MESPA
executive director. “This school improvement program examines the entire school community through six
national standards, ensuring there is a holistic approach to creating a plan for future achievement and
celebrating the unique accomplishments of each School of Excellence.”
Hawthorne Elementary is part of the Albert Lea School District and serves over 400 students in grades
K-5.
Kasson-Mantorville Elementary is part of the Kasson-Mantorville School District and serves over 600
students in grades K-4.

The other two schools in the state that were recognized are Oak Hills Elementary in Lakeville, and Sebeka Public School.
