UPDATE: 11-year-old passes away following drowning incident in Winnebago County
(ABC 6 News) — According to an obituary, the 11-year-old from Lake Mills who was involved in a drowning incident has passed away.
The child passed away on Monday, September 9th at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester due to the injuries suffered in the crash. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 4-7 PM. The service will be a private ceremony for close friends and family.

(ABC 6 News) – An 11-year-old from Lake Mills is injured after drowning in a pond in Winnebago County.
According to Iowa State Patrol, an individual in a red 2018 Polaris Ranger was operating near a Lake Mills private pond, when the side tires entered the bank of the pond, causing the UTV to roll onto its side.
The driver was pinned under the UTV, in the water.
Life-saving measures were performed, and the 11-year-old was transported to Mayo by MercyOne AirMed. The child’s current condition is unknown.
The Iowa DNR noted that ATV drivers between 12 and 17 are required to undergo training before driving on public property and trails.
However, the Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened on private property, where some traffic laws are not enforceable.
The ISP says the crash is still under investigation.
Iowa DNR C317, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Mills Police and Fire Departments, Forest City Ambulance and Dick’s Towing all assisted at the scene.

First responders in Winnebago County are on scene of a possible drowning incident.
According to dispatch, a medical call for a possible drowning came in at 5:26 p.m., and as of 7:35 p.m. officers were still assisting at the scene.
The incident occurred north of Lake Mills, but the exact location is unknown.
Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is expected to send a press release soon with more information.
