LaCrescent man arrested in I-90 car chase

(ABC 6 News) – A LaCrescent man faces Houston County charges after a car chase that took him into Winona and Olmsted Counties.

LaCrescent resident Matthew Richard Davis, 44, was taken into custody on I-90 near mile marker 249, Winona County sheriff Ron Ganrude said.

According to Ganrude, LaCrescent police asked Winona County law enforcement to watch for a stolen white Ford pickup truck around 7:23 a.m, which had been seen heading into Winona County.

Just before 8 a.m., a Winona County deputy saw the vehicle on I-90 and began pursuit, followed by a Minnesota State Trooper, on I-90 at Highway 74.

A police officer caught up to the truck and attempted a traffic stop between St. Charles and Dover, but the driver fled, leading to a pursuit “over to the Eyota exit,” where the driver of the Ford turned around and headed back toward St. Charles, Ganrude said.

Winona County law enforcement used “stop sticks” three times, deflating three of the car’s tires, before it stopped and deputies tried to talk the driver into exiting the vehicle.

Eventually, they used a pepper ball and the driver was taken into custody, Ganrude said.

Davis faces Houston County charges and will be taken to their jail shortly, Ganrude added.
