12 hurt after school bus rolls in crash in Hibbing, MN

(ABC 6 News) – A Cherry school bus was involved in an accident Thursday morning, according to St. Louis County Schools Superintendent Dr. Reggie Engebritson.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that students were injured in the crash. Sheriff Gordon Ramsay says 10 kids were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Ramsay also confirmed the accident involved a Toyota RAV4 and that the bus rolled.

The crash happened around 7:50 a.m. Thursday morning at the intersection of Hwy % and Townline Rd. in Hibbing.

According to the Hibbing Fire Department, the bus driver and 20 students were on the bus going northbound on Hwy 5 to Cherry School in Cherry. A witness to the crash reported the incident, saying that students were crawling out of the bus on their own.

Chief Erik Jankila says a “mass casualty” system was implemented, leading to more ambulances than patients at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the RAV4 has “serious to critical injuries” and the bus driver is reported to have serious injuries.

This is a developing story. ABC 6 News will provide more details as they become available.
