RFD responds to over 30 calls for service after storms
(ABC 6 NEWS) – Many parts of Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa saw damage from Wednesday night’s storms and Rochester was no different.
The Rochester Fire Department responded to 35 calls for service between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday.
These called included multiple small fires, downed power lines, gas leaks, and other hazards caused by falling trees.
The most significant damage was at a garage in the 2300 block of 7th Ave. NE, according to the Rochester Fire Department.
Around 12:30 a.m., a burning transformer on a power pole spread to a nearby detached garage.
Crews used force of entry to access the garage and extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported from the fire and the nearby house was not impacted.
A man in Southeast Rochester was trapped in his Rochester Home Wednesday night when a large tree fell and blocked his front door.
Crews were able to cut up the tree with chainsaws and help the resident get out of his home.
