(ABC 6 News) – UPDATE: According to Minnesota State Patrol, a brush fire that happened on I-90 near Highway 63 was caused by a wheel coming off a truck.

The fire is now out and the truck with the missing wheel will be towed away.

According to Capt. Steve Denny with Stewartville Fire and Rescue, the debris “at 500 degrees or hotter” came off the truck and caused multiple “spot fires.”

Denny requested aid from the Rochester Fire Department to put out the blazes quickly.

There were no injuries reported.

While the average SE Minnesotan won’t find themselves in a similar situation to the truck driver Wednesday, Denny said there are still some basic precautions everyone can take to minimize fire risk during dry weather.

“It’s a no-brainer, but people still do it,” he said. “Don’t throw your cigarette butts out when you’re driving on the highway.”

People should also avoid burning brush piles during dry, windy weather.

And if someone does have a recreational fire or grill going in the next few days, Denny recommended keeping a water source — like a hose or bucket — nearby and putting the blaze out completely before leaving.
