Mower County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

MCSO Scam Warning

MCSO Scam Warning

(ABC 6 News) – Chief Deputy David K. Pike of the Mower County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warning about a scam caller claiming to be a deputy with the MCSO.

Recently our office has received reports of scamming phone calls.  The caller has claimed to be a deputy with the Mower County Sheriff’s Office and requests money, gift cards, or Bitcoin citing various reasons the payment must be made immediately to them.

The public is reminded that deputies will never call, text or email to ask for money to satisfy a warrant or court action.

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be a Law Enforcement Officer and you are suspicious, stop the communication, call dispatch, and ask to speak to that Law Enforcement Officer.

Never pay or plan to meet with someone to make a payment to avoid arrest or pay fees for missing jury duty/court.

Please contact our office at 507-437-9400 if you have any questions.
