Quarry Hill Park Animal Hospital hosts rabbit vaccine clinic

(ABC 6 News) – Quarry Hill Park Animal Hospital began their rabbit vaccine clinic Tuesday evening to protect them from the rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus.

Rabbit hemorrhagic disease is a fatal disease in rabbits and is classified as a foreign animal disease in the United States.

The disease is highly contagious and, unlike other rabbit hemorrhagic disease viruses, it affects both domestic and wild rabbits.

Veterinarians encourage rabbit owners to get them vaccinated.

Currently, there are two doses of the vaccine and they are taken 21 days apart.

Those who wish to have their rabbit vaccinated will need to call the animal hospital but they may need to wait.

“You can call Quarry Hill Park Animal Hospital and get on a waitlist for the vaccine, every time we have at least 10 rabbits signed up we can hold another vaccine clinic,” said Associate Veterinarian Renee Dina.

If they haven’t already, the rabbits will also be given a microchip so they can easily detect who has received the vaccine.

The cost for the vaccine is 65 dollars, but for rabbits who don’t have a microchip or tattoo it’s 80 dollars.
