ALERT DAY THURSDAY: One last shot of snow arriving late Thursday night, early Friday morning

Snow has tapered off this evening, but this clipper is not entirely finished with us. Another shot of snow with totals ranging from a trace to a half inch will move into southeast Minnesota around Midnight and 2 AM in northeast Iowa.

Road crews have done a tremendous job of taking care of roads and highways today, yet there will inevitably be slick spots tonight through Friday morning.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for areas along and south of Highway 14 in far southeast Minnesota and portions of northeast Iowa until 3:00 AM on Friday. Meanwhile, WINTER STORM WARNINGS are in place just north and east of the Weather First area from east-central Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin.

Total snow accumulations have ranged from 2-7″ across much of southeast Minnesota with lighter amounts of 3″ or less across north Iowa. Higher amounts have fallen in areas under the warning.

The wind overnight will be blustery with gusts up to 30 mph at times likely leading to blowing snow and lower visibility especially in open and rural areas. Be especially careful on east-west roads as the winds tonight are strong out of the north.

The combination of snow and the gusty winds will lead to hazardous travel across much of the area as roads and other untreated surfaces will be slick.
