Avian flu reaches Olmsted County
(ABC 6 News) – A small Olmsted County flock has been diagnosed with highly pathogenic avian flu, or H5N1.
According to the MN Board of Animal Health, the infected birds fall under the category of “WOAH non-poultry,” or birds that are kept in a single household and have no contact with other poultry facilities or production.
The Olmsted County flock was put under quarantine on Jan. 1, and the virus was confirmed Jan. 6.
H5N1 has been confirmed in 10 Minnesota sites since November of 2024, including a 28,633-head commercial turkey farm in Fillmore County.
According to the USDA, 10.35 million birds have been affected nationally.
