Multiple police agencies assist in a vehicle pursuit in Mason City

(ABC 6 NEWS) – Multiple police agencies responded to a vehicle pursuit in Mason City Saturday night.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, on January 15 around 8:46 p.m., a Cerro Gordo County deputy attempted to stop a white 2015 GMC Yukon for the driver of the vehicle having a barred driving status.
The driver of the vehicle was Clay Douglas Kalvig, 33, of Mason City.
According to the press release, Kalvig attempted to elude law enforcement and led them on a short vehicle pursuit which ended at the intersection of 1st street NW and North Taylor Avenue, near Mercy One North Iowa Medical Center, where he lost control and struck a tree causing minor damage to the vehicle he was driving.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office says Kalvig then fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later by a deputy.
Kalvig was charged with driving barred, an aggravated misdemeanor; eluding law enforcement second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.
The Mason City Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene after the pursuit, nobody was injured and no Sheriff’s office vehicles were damaged.
