Riverland and RCTC Hoops continue Day 2 of Region XIII Tournament

(KAAL-TV) — The Region XIII Tournament continued Saturday for both Riverland and RCTC’s basketball programs.

Both men’s teams won on Friday, pushing them into Saturday’s semifinals. Meanwhile, the women’s teams were just beginning their runs for the day.

The #5 RCTC Women’s Hoops team scorched past Western Tech, 88-58. Lyle native Olivia Christianson scored 20 points while Fillmore Central graduate Kandace Sinkkink added 10. The #13 Blue Devils topped Rainy River, 81-71, as Camryn McQuery notched a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double. Savannah Longhoma added 17 in the victory.

Both local schools are now set to face each other for the Region XIIIA Championship on Sunday at 12 PM. The winner goes to the NJCAA Championships which will be held at RCTC this season.

On the men’s side, #1 Riverland made good work out of Northland, pulling away for an 80-60 win. Cleveland Bedgood led both sides with 17 points while Lajarrion Spinks complimented with 11 points. The #14 Yellowjackets would not be as fortunate, RCTC’s season ending in a 62-51 loss to Anoka-Ramsey. Quest McCrimon dropped a team-high 13 points for the Yellowjackets while Devyn Frye added 11 for the day.

The Blue Devils will now play for the Region XIII Championship on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
