Pine Island vehicle fire being investigated as suspicious

(ABC 6 News) – A vehicle fire in Pine Island early Monday morning is being investigated as suspicious.

According to the Pine Island Fire Department, at approximately 12:29 a.m., fire crews were called to the area at White Bridge Road NW and Hwy 52, near the Elk Run overpass, on a report of a vehicle fire.

The department says the vehicle was near a corn field, and given its location and high winds at the time, two engine crews and a tender responded to the incident.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire and a nearby field was searched, but the driver was not located.

The fire is being considered suspicious and under investigation by law enforcement.

Crews cleared the area around 1:20 a.m.
