Prep of the Week: Max Edwin

(ABC 6 News) — The Albert Lea Tigers did not win a single football game all season. But if you look around Tigerland there are no mopey faces.
At the tip of the spear of positive attitude is senior wide receiver Max Edwin.
“He’s a funny energetic guy you know,” Tigers linebacker/fullback Paw Doh asserted. “He’s always making plays out there for us. Always being the leader. Always showing examples. Never gets in trouble.”
Edwin is Albert Lea’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards, and for much of the season, Edwin has been in the top 10 in that category for all Minnesota high school wide receivers.
Arguably his best performance of the season came against Byron, he had 14 receptions for 251 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the bone-chilling cold.

“Keep fighting, keep racking up those yards and receptions and it’ll come,” Edwin reflected. “Obviously, I got two touchdowns which was really nice and doing that really made the cold go away. Kinda got me warm inside and stuff.”
Edwin has played with many quarterbacks over the years but none may be closer to him than fellow senior Dakota Jahnke; the two have been friends since daycare and came up together in the Albert Lea athletic program.
“They needed a center for varsity sophomore year and I jumped in at center,” Jahnke recounted. “And then during those practices, they needed a scout quarterback and I played baseball. I had an arm so I just started slinging the ball around and they started teaching more of the plays, started getting more comfortable.
“Last game of sophomore year, I became the varsity quarterback and junior year is when me and Max really started to click on plays and really target each other. Almost knowing what each other is going to do without telling each other.”
Despite the records and results, Edwin looks fondly at his time as an Albert Lea Tiger.
“I’m going to cherish the most, my coaches and my teammates,” Edwin concluded. “They’ve really been with me through all these years. It’s just been a great time being tiger football.”
