(ABC 6 News) — The number one-ranked Riverland men’s basketball team began its run in the NJCAA DIII Tournament Thursday.

Against number eight Rock Valley, the Golden Eagles proved to put up more than a fight. Rock Valley’s Aleksa Markovic barreled through early in the first half for a bucket to make the deficit as high as 15-8.

Riverland’s Lajarrion Spinks and Boomer Jock tried to provide sparks for the Blue Devils, but Riverland was virtually playing from behind all game. In the end, the number one DIII junior college in America fell by fifteen, 75-60. A defeat even more stunning considering Rock Valley is the host team this year.

Back in Rochester, RCTC women’s hoops kicked off its NJCAA Tournament run in quarterfinals action against North Country. The Yellowjackets were in their element with a home-court advantage, the likes of Kassidy Broadwater and Ravyn Miles putting in the work to score. The final score would be a much more favorable sight as the Yellowjackets advanced to Friday’s semifinal, beating North Country, 65-42.
