(ABC 6 News) — Softball section playoffs have begun in earnest as was the case in Chatfield on Monday.

The second-seeded Gophers made clear they’re on a mission with a 14-4 drubbing of seventh-seed Lewiston-Altura at home.

Chatfield wasn’t letting anything slip by, as noted by L-A’s attempt to steal second in the first inning before the Gophers’ Jordan Zimmerman tagged her out. Zimmerman was also key on offense, she began her day at the plate with a double after an errant throw to first. From there, Zimmerman scored the opening run for Chatfield after Claire Springer hit an RBI triple right after.

Alexis Hinckley’s hit to right-center sent pinch-runner Josie Koenigs home for a 2-0 lead as the Gophers poured on the offense all afternoon. With the Cardinals in the rear view, Chatfield will now focus on defending its home turf against (3) Cotter/Hope Lutheran at 5 PM on Tuesday.
