2 winning $1M Mega Millions tickets sold in Minnesota
(ABC 6 News) – The third largest lottery prize ever was won last Friday night.
One lucky person beat the odds and won the $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot. The winning ticket was sold at a Speedway gas station and convenience store in Des Plaines, IL, a suburb of Chicago.
While nobody won the top prize in Minnesota, there were two lucky winners of the one-million-dollar prize, according to the Minnesota State lottery.
One ticket was sold at a Holiday Station in Forest Lake, and the other ticket was sold at a Casey’s General Store in Fridley. Those tickets matched five numbers, but not the Mega Ball.
Each of the businesses will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the $1 million winning tickets.
Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes, and must be claimed in-person at Minnesota Lottery headquarters in Roseville.
Under Minnesota law, the names and cities of people who win win $10,000 or more in the lottery are automatically considered private data and the identity of the winner can only be made public if the winner so chooses. If winners decide to make their identities public, the Minnesota Lottery will have a giant check waiting for them.
