(ABC 6 News) – You may have noticed the sidewalks in downtown Albert Lea look a little more colorful this week. The third year of Chalk the Lake Walk kicked off on Monday.
The community is encouraged to chalk the sidewalks in downtown Albert Lea and around fountain lake for the week to make someone’s day a little brighter.
"We had a really great turnout our first year. It was obviously right in the heat of Covid and it was something that we could safely go out and do in the community and spread a little bit of positivity under a dark cloud," Holly Karsjens, the Executive Director of Albert Lea’s Main Street Program, said. "Why not continue doing that even if the clouds are lifting?"
Albert Lea’s main street program is asking you to take pictures of your chalk art and share them on their Facebook page or post it with the hashtag #chalkthelakewalkAL.
This is also one of the items on the bingo card that Freeborn County United Way has put out for screen-free week where you are encouraged to get off of your electronics.
