(ABC 6 News) — Tuesday was a fantastic day for Austin’s own Bob Motzko.

The head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s hockey team was named the Big Ten coach of the year for the second time in his career. Overall, it’s the sixth time Motzko has been named a conference coach of the year. The honor comes as the Golden Gophers are on the verge of winning back-to-back Big Ten Tournament titles this Saturday against Michigan.

Coach Motzko recently held a free-to-the-public intra-team scrimmage at Riverside Arena in Austin. The event came prior to the Gophers’ semifinal victory over Penn State on March 12.
