Celebrating the importance of National Hydration Day.
(ABC 6 News) – Every year June 23rd is observed as National Hydration Day in the United States of America as well as around the world.
This special day highlights the importance of hydration for everyone. The day was created in honor of late football coach Victor Hawkins in 2016. Hawkins created the SafeTGuard mouth guard, which is a special hydrating mouth guard designed to keep players healthy and hydrated while on the field.
While drinking water is crucial for staying hydrated, there are other ways that help too.
Jeffrey Lanenberg from Allina Health EMS adds a couple of other sources “such as eating a little more fruits and vegetables believe it or not that are higher in water concentrate.”
Mayo Clinic says the traditional eight glasses of water a day is a reasonable goal, but also adds that some factors could mean more water is required to stay hydrated. Those factors include more exercise, hotter weather, having an illness, and being pregnant.
