(ABC 6 News) – Rochester is known as the "Med City," and Rochester city leaders met for an event focused on what makes a city a healthy city.
The main takeaway from the event was that the health and wellness of a city equal economic wellness.
Patrick Seeb, the executive director of Destination Medical Center says private investment helps public growth.
An example of this in Rochester would be Discovery Square Downtown. It’s designed to help foster life science research and innovation and that’s what DMC’s message is, in order to attract people to come to Rochester, you have to "be a city of health."
“Addressing issues of air and water quality, equity and inclusion, all of these things are on our 20-year journey of building America’s City for Health. It’s a team sport, but more importantly, getting that out on the table, we all know what game we’re playing and what game we’re in,” Seeb said.
Rochester Mayor Kim Norton also spoke at the event and said one of her goals is to be the spokesperson for “America’s City of Health,” and said we need to be a healthy city, by having people embrace health and wellness.
