(ABC 6 News) – Drag Story Time was held at Rochester Art Center on Saturday.

Local drag performer Miss Anita Tiara read books and did crafts with families at the family-friendly event.

The event was sold out and was free to anyone.

Miss Anita hoped that the kids took the messages of loving themselves and respecting other people in the stories into their lives and the real world.

"I think it’s good for children to be exposed to people and good ideas that can come from theater, costumes and entertainment. Sort of like to express yourself in artistic ways, to love yourself, to love others," the local drag performer said.

Drag Story Time is popular in large cities across the U.S. such as Boston and Washington D.C. This is the first time a Drag Story Time has been put on in Rochester but organizers and Miss Anita hope more will follow in the future.

Upcoming Rochester drag events include Drag Brunch at Crave on March 20 and Foolin’ Around with The Rochester Girls on April 1.
