Drive aimed at addressing remote learning challenges

(ABC 6 News) – For many, it became clear during the pandemic that students and families don’t always have the technology they need for distance learning, and those at Affinity Plus in Rochester decided to do something to help.

Tuesday, Affinity and the non-profit Minnesota Tech for Success paired up for a technology drive. They collected old laptops, monitors, cell phones and other devices to be repurposed for Minnesota classrooms and households.

"We still see students learning remotely. We also see schools that are still in the process of keeping up with the technology advances. Recent reports showed over 160,000 students in Minnesota still lack access to reliable technology," said Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union Community Relations Specialist Adam Layne.

This is the 3rd year the drive is being held. In 2021 Affinity Plus donated 500 computers to communities across the state and Layne says they hope to match that goal this year.
