(ABC 6 News) – The Minnesota State Republican Party has chosen David Hann of Eden Prairie as its new chair to replace Jennifer Carnahan who resigned from her post in August.

Hann is a former state senator who served as a minority leader from 2013 to 2017.

Olmsted County Republican Chair Chris Brandt was at the meeting that elected Hann and he says it’s good to have a Chairman again. Brandt is excited about the future and likes Hann’s experience.

"His experience is very good. He was the senate minority leader so he knows how to get elected, he knows how to get other people elected, he knows how things work, so he will bring some very good experience to that position," Brandt said.

Wiith the midterm elections approaching next year, Brandt says party unity is important.

"I think the prospects for the party in 2022 are very good, I think we will do well in the 2022 elections, I think Governor Walz is vulnerable in a couple of ways," Brandt said.

Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin also congratulated Hann on his new position.
