(ABC 6 News) – Every champion knows how hard it is to repeat. For the Hayfield Viking boys basketball team, they understand as the reigning champs they have a target on their back.

Last year they won the Section 1A and State championship.

They will have the opportunity to do that again this season after they beat Goodhue 53-42 Thursday night.

Ethan Pack led the way with 17, while Zander Jacobson added 12 and Easton Fritcher chipped in nine for the Vikings.

As for Caledonia, they pulled out a thrilling 72-61 win in triple overtime against P-E-M, ranked No. 4 in the state, in the Section 1AA boys basketball championship game.

P-E-M (28-2), the No. 2 section seed, led by 13 in the first half but Caledonia’s Eli King with 2.7 seconds left to tie the game and send it to the first overtime.

The teams competed to a stalemate in the second overtime but in the final overtime, it was all Caledonia.
