(ABC 6 News) – A 70-year-old man was shot and killed after investigating a suspicious vehicle on his property Sunday night, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a home on the 5000 block of County Road 105 in Kalmar Township around 10:45 p.m. for a reported shooting.
The sheriff’s office said the victim was shot, at least once, in the upper body area, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect, identified as William Shillingford, was taken into custody about a half-mile away.
Shillingford is facing a possible charge of 2nd-degree murder and will be arraigned on Tuesday.
The sheriff’s office said right now there is no known motive for the shooting, and do not believe the suspect and victim knew each other.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the ongoing investigation, and authorities said they don’t believe there is any current threat to the public.
This is a developing story, ABC 6 News will update when more information becomes available.
