Man suspected of pulling trigger in Mall of America shooting arrested
(KSTP) – A man who allegedly fired a gun at Mall of America on New Year’s Eve has been taken into custody, according to the Bloomington Police Department.
Ramsey County sheriff’s deputies and St. Paul police officers arrested 18-year-old Kahlil Wiley on Tuesday afternoon in Roseville. Bloomington police say a gun was found at the scene of the arrest.
Wiley was taken to the Bloomington Police Department and is being held on suspicion of first-degree assault pending formal charges.
Around 5 p.m. Friday evening, an officer patrolling near the north side of the third floor heard a single shot fired and alerted mall security, according to police. The mall went into a lockdown, and police found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance; another man was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
Deputy Bloomington Police Chief Kim Clausen described a fight between two males resulting in one shooting the other. The suspect then fled the area. The second man was "probably grazed" by the bullet.
On Sunday, a 19-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of aiding and abetting the shooter. Witnesses said they saw him leaving the mall with the shooter.
