Mason City Officer receives Officer of the Year award
(ABC 6 News) – A 19 year veteran of the Mason City Police Department has been awarded 2021 Police Officer of the Year.
Officer Duane Kemna was honored with the award by the largest union of law enforcement in the state of Iowa.
The 19-year veteran was chosen by his fellow officers to receive the award, which was presented by Teamsters Local 238 at a banquet on January 29th.
According to Teamster Business Representative Arthur Jones, union members in the Mason City Police Department voted for Officer Kemna because he has gone above and beyond normal duties by filling shifts for well over a year to help alleviate overtime for his fellow officers.
“Officer Kemna’s selfless dedication and tireless efforts have touched and changed countless people in the department. He is a great advocate for his fellow officers and we honor his service as Police Officer of the Year for inspiring greatness within the community,” Jones said in a statement released on Wednesday
