Mayo bests Century in baseball section first round, Lourdes advances to semifinals

(ABC 6 News) — Rochester high school baseball was in the spotlight on Memorial Day with several section tournament games taking place.
The Section 1AAAA tournament kicked off and in the first round was the latest chapter between Century and Mayo. The crosstown rivalry took place at Dale Massey Field.
Century jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Mayo answered in the bottom of the first on an RBI from senior Jonah Alleckson to give them a 2-1 lead.
Century tied the game on an RBI bunt from sophomore Owen Kelly in the top of the second inning. The game remained tied for two innings until Mayo’s bats got and that offensive surge carried them to an 11-5 victory.
Mayo will play #2 Lakeville South on June 1 at 5 pm. Century will play #1 Farmington that same day @ 5 pm. If the Panthers lose, their season is over.

Rochester Lourdes moved on to the semifinals of the Section 1AA tournament after shutting out Cannon Falls 4-0.
Senior Joseph Sperry turned in another outstanding performance as he pitched a complete game, while also knocking in 2 RBIs.
Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off Sperry’s RBI single to right field. In the bottom of the third, Sperry hit an RBI single to left field.
Lourdes will face PEM this Saturday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at Mayo Field.
