Mayo Boys Tennis beats out Mounds View in top-five matchup

(ABC 6 News) — Mayo, the number four boys tennis team in the state, hosted two of the state’s top five teams on Saturday. Number three Orono and number five Mounds View along with Lourdes all playing at the Rochester Outdoor Tennis Center.

Orono bested Mayo, but the Spartans would rebound against both Mounds View and Lourdes. In doubles action against the Mustangs, Spencer Busch and Caleb Neisen dominated against Johnny Yue and Josh Lange. The former took their match 6-4 and 6-1, as the rest of the doubles matches swept in Mayo’s favor.

In singles competition, Tej Bhagra faced off against Emmanuel Alex, yet, despite some good rallies, Alex ended up sweeping the match, 6-3, 6-0. The Singles matches ended up split between both schools, but the Spartans ultimately prevailed, winning four matches to the Mustangs’ three. Following that, the Spartans would sweep Lourdes, 7-0.
