(ABC 6 News) – Father’s Day can serve as a reminder for men to take charge of their health – as men are twice as likely to wait more than two years before doctors visits.
Thats according to a National Health Interview Survey, that said nearly 20 percent of men admit to only visiting a doctor just so a loved one will stop asking about it.
But those gaps between care can cause increased health concerns that you can avoid if caught early.
Beyond those doctors visits, Mayo Clinic says excercise and healthy eating habits can have huge impacts especially as men age.
"The most important medicine that you can take is the food that you put into your body every day in terms of avoiding cancer and avoiding problems as we age exercise is incredible powerful staying healthy weight is incredible powerful," said Mayo Clinic Urologist Dr. Tobias Kohler .
Some issues may arise as men grow older , like prostate and bladder cancer. Doctors say that regular visits and having a plan during appointments can lead to far better healthcare for patients.
