Olmsted County Attorney talks Tough On Crime legislation

(ABC 6 News) -Crime is up throughout Minnesota, but in the twin cities, violent crime has seen a double-digit percentage increase that many leaders see as a large obstacle to an economic rebound post-pandemic.

Republican lawmakers and many police chiefs and sheriffs say they’re frustrated by the number of criminal cases where suspects aren’t getting charged by prosecutors.

County attorneys, however, say in many of the cases there might be "probable cause" to file charges but not enough evidence to convict.

Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem joins Betsy Singer to look deeper into this issue.
