(ABC 6 News) – One person is injured in a fire at an apartment complex in Southwest Rochester Thursday night. The Rochester Fire Department responded to Woodridge Apartments at around 7 p.m. They found smoke coming from an apartment unit on the second floor and found a fire in the kitchen. Firefighters rescued one person inside, and first responders took the victim to St. Marys Hospital via Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
"We located the rest of the fire in the kitchen area. We put that fire out and noticed that there was quite a bit of burnt surface on the ceiling leading into the living area," Fire Captain Brett Knapp said.
Residents were evacuated, but have since gone back to their apartments. Knapp says the sprinkler system kept the fire in check but caused significant water damage. The cause of the fire and the extent of the victim’s injuries are still unknown.
The Rochester Police Department also responded.
