(ABC 6 News) — On a day where many teams postponed their regular-season opener because of cool temperatures, the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Bulldogs and the Hayfield Vikings decided to keep their Friday matchup intact.

Hayfield struck first when Reese Bauman singled with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning.

P.E.M would mitigate the damage and get out of the inning with just that run given up. In the bottom of the first, they scored 5 runs and that early momentum carried them to a 9-5 victory.

Pitchers from both teams were solid on the mound despite the onslaught of runs. Hayfield’s Anna Bamlet had 8 strikeouts and PEM’s Skylar Beckel and Kaylee Peter had 15 strikeouts combined.
