(ABC 6 News) – An Austin man was found dead in his home on October 13 and police say he may have been fatally hurt during a robbery.
Officers were called to the home of 75-year-old William Hall on the 800 block of 12th Ave SE by members of the community who delivered meals to his home.
While officers were on scene a neighbor told them their security cameras had recorded several young men in the area of Hall’s home on the 12th. The cameras also reportedly captured what sounded like a confrontation between Hall and the young men.
The neighbor also told police they had found a brandy bottle near the home as well as a holster for a gun. The brandy is consistent with what Hall kept in the home.
Later in the week, Hall’s family members reported they were not able to find some of Hall’s belongings in his home, including a gun.
Upon reviewing the security video and conducting interviews, police believe Hall was surprised by the group of young men who had come to his house with the intent to steal from him. During the encounter, Hall was pushed down and when he tried to get back up he was hit in the face. Police said this left him seriously injured and would be later found dead in that area.
Police said after Hall was assaulted several items were taken from the home and the group of young men ran off.
Two juveniles have been taken into custody as well as 18-year-old Francisco Silva of Austin.
They are facing a variety of possible charges including 2nd-degree murder while committing a felony, aggravated robbery and 1st-degree assault.
