(ABC 6 News) – The Riverland Blue Devil men’s basketball team may not have ended the season the way they wanted, but they have nothing to hold their heads down about.
Technically, they finished the season with a victory.
The top-seeded Blue Devils were upset by Rock Valley in the first round of the NJCAA DIII National Tournament last Thursday. They were able to rebound the next two days with victories over Onondaga and Rhode Island to finish in fifth place.
"To be able to do what we did was incredible," head coach Derek Hahn said. "A lot of firsts in Riverland history. First-ever #1 ranking. [The] first time that we ever won the conference at 14-0. Being perfect, we’ve won the division before but we went perfect 14-0 so that’s pretty special. And obviously to go through and win that region title for the first time ever was pretty special. "
