(ABC 6 NEWS) – Tuesday is the first day you can get seeds for your garden at the Rochester Public Library Seed Library.
There are more than 13,000 packets of seeds ready for new and experienced gardeners with over 55 varieties.
It’s on a first come first serve basis and you can check out 10 seed packets with your library card.
The library wanted to make sure everyone has a chance to get some seeds as well as options with the types of seeds available.
"The way a seed library works is you go ahead and check out the seeds and then grow what you check out and then you don’t bring the seeds you took back to us if you are successful with what you grew you can save the seeds from what you grew and bring those seeds back to us and that’s how you can keep the seed library going," Rochester Public Library Head of Technical Services, Keri Ostby said.
Plus there are even more ways to get seeds this year.
"Our bookmobile will be carrying a collection on this year before we weren’t able to have a collection on it but this year there actually will be seeds on the bookmobile, and when the book bike goes out there will be available as well," Ostby said.
There are also community donated seeds, there is not a limit on these, but the library does ask you to only take what you can use.
You can learn more by visiting the library’s website.
