(ABC 6 News) – We have been featuring various small businesses in the area all week. Friday, we highlight a non-profit thrift store in Rochester that’s also a place for young adults with disabilities to learn new skills.

The store is called the Yellow Monkey and has been offering thrifty finds for about five years now.

Groups from schools in the area, Possibilities, the Ability Building Center and more make it all happen.

The store owner says the reason she chose to create these opportunities for people is near and dear to her heart.

"They are pretty limited on where they can go and volunteer and learn these skills, and I have a son with autism that used to go to a place like this that closed in Rochester and he loved it there so he was kind of my inspiration to do it," said Yellow Monkey Founder Cindy Rigotti.

The store sells repurposed items, furniture, and home decor, a lot of which come from donations.
