(ABC 6 News) – The 18th annual Food for Kidz meal packing event was held at the Stewartville Civic Center on Saturday.
About 250 volunteers came together throughout the day to package fortified meals that feed six people.
Organizers said they don’t yet know exactly where the food will go, but oftentimes it goes to Haiti, Central Africa, food shelves in the U.S., Central America and now possibly to Ukraine.
Volunteers came from other Kiwanis organizations in the area, the Stewartville High School Dance Team and lots of other community members. Even families of three and four generations came to help out others.
"We have kids that need to stand on a stool to get the ingredients in the funnel to people who really need to sit down because they can’t stand any longer. So, it’s just a great inter-generational even and as you can see they’re having a lot of fun while doing a really great service," Mary Brouillard, co-chair and member of Stewartville Kiwanis, said.
Stewartville Kiwanis is hoping to hit its two millionth meal this year because of this event.
