(ABC 6 NEWS) – A popular event in Clear Lake is back at the Surf Ballroom, the Winter Dance Party, and it has something for everyone.
The event celebrates the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. ‘The Big Bopper’ Richardson before the trio died in a plane crash in 1959.
This is the 43rd year the event has been going on. The event kicks off Friday with special guest Don McLane singing his iconic song "American Pie." The event runs through Saturday.
"Those three stars were so influential in music history, their legacies live on through the countless musicians who were impacted by them, have followed by their footsteps and have learned from them and were inspired by them, it’s so important for us to celebrate that history," Laurie Lietz, the executive director of the Surf Ballroom & Museum said.
Laurie says around 1,200 people are expected to attend. If you would like to go and get tickets, visit here.
