Blizzard impacts extend into holiday weekend

Roads are closing up for Friday night in many locations, especially at the county level. Whiteout conditions and drifting is the cause.

There is a clear difference from being within city limits to outside of city limits. The rural open areas are being hammered with 40-55 mph wind gusts. Blizzard conditions should extend up until sunrise, but wind gusts aren’t too eager to quickly fall back down. Breezy winds will still blow snow in open areas. Emergency travel only is recommended outside of city limits overnight into Saturday morning.

Roads may take time to recover. The significance of drifting that occurs tonight will dictate how quickly roads will improve over the holiday weekend. Conceivably, closures could extend throughout Saturday, especially on the county level. This will cramp the travel scene leading up to the holiday.
