Monday record rainfall, severe weather reports

Showers and thunderstorms along with severe weather brought heavy rainfall to much of the Weather First area on Monday.

Radar estimates indicate 1-3″ of rain fell across much of Southeast Minnesota and a portion of North Iowa.

The Rochester International Airport set a new daily precipitation record with 1.22″ being recorded on Monday. That amount surpasses the old daily record of 0.67 from 2000.

There were several severe weather reports around the area including tornadoes from Rice, Faribault, Freeborn counties in Minnesota and Worth county in Iowa. Also, a few high wind and heavy rain reports.

The National Weather Service will likely survey the damage caused by the reported tornadoes before confirming any and assigning them a rating.
