Plunging temperatures, breezy Tuesday
Winter will make a brief return through midweek.
A cold front will slide through the area Tuesday afternoon followed by plunging temperatures into the single digits by Wednesday morning.
High temperatures for the day will likely occur around lunchtime with most areas in the 40s. Further east, it’ll be warmer in the 50s and 60s closer to the Mississippi River as it’ll take a bit longer for the front to reach. Regardless, once it passes, temperatures will sharply drop through the afternoon into Wednesday morning.
The wind will also ramp up behind the front with gusts up to 35 mph possible through the night. Gusts are expected to be a bit higher across north Iowa where a **WIND ADVISORY** is in effect from 12:00 PM Tuesday until 3:00 AM Wednesday as gusts may approach 45 mph at times.
The gusty winds will lead to wind chills falling into the double digits below zero by Wednesday morning.
