Winter storm lined up Wednesday night/Thursday
Our next Winter Storm is lining up for Wednesday night into Thursday. The details of this are starting to come into agreement with given southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa a moderate to major impact from snow.
This one will be all snow. No mix is expected locally. At times it will be heavy Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The onset will occur in the evening between 6-10 PM from south to north and exit the area southwest to northeast Thursday afternoon from 12-4 PM.
An early look favors an initial range of 5-8″ of snow. A slight edge to the higher end of the range is favored over northern Iowa than southern Minnesota. That said, the differences in terms of impact is minimal. Everyone will see plowable amounts of snow.
The wind will be a bit breezy, but well under blizzard criteria. Gusts rounding the north to northwest will push up around 25 mph on Thursday. This will lead to some areas of blowing/drifting snow in wide open areas.
Travel will be impacted with snow covered roads. The worst will be overnight into the Thursday morning commute.
We’re keeping tabs on the situation and will refine the forecast as we get closer.
