53rd annual Snowfest in Cresco wraps up
(ABC 6 News) – The Driftrunners Snowmobile Club, along with many others, met up at the Cresco Country Club on Sunday to wrap up this year’s Snowfest.
“It was lack of snow, but a lot of people came out and helped,” board member of Driftrunners Snowmobile Club Darius Jones said.
With the lack of snowfall this year, organizers had to get creative.
Instead of riding around in snowmobiles, they used side by sides.
Luckily, everything else went as planned, like the massive jigsaw puzzle competition.
“Last year we had nine teams, this year we had 15 teams, which is a big step up from what we had last year,” Secretary of the Driftrunners Snowmobile Club Brandon Plaht said. “We actually had the first place team finish in 31 minutes and second place was 19 seconds later.”
People also had the opportunity to participate in the fourth annual Snowfest chili cook-off.
“It ended up having a really good public response, we served over 1,400 cups of chili,” former President of the Driftrunners Snowmobile Club Zach Gooder said.
People also enjoyed live music along with a raffle and silent auction.
Local businesses and sponsors lent a hand by donating all the prizes.
“All of the proceeds go directly to our club which supports our trails system, groomer, any other expenses we have throughout the year,” Vice President of the Driftrunners Snowmobile Club Steven Burke.
The Driftrunners Snowmobile Club is thankful for the support they receive from the community and sponsors because they say without them, none of this would be possible.
“We can’t do what we do without the support of the businesses and everybody who comes out. If you guys don’t buy memberships, if the landowners don’t give us our land we don’t have trails,” Jones said.
The club is now looking forward to next year, with hopefully more people and snow.
