American Airlines fined $50 million for failing to provide wheelchair assistance to passengers

(ABC 6 News) — American Airlines has been fined $50 million for failing to provide wheelchair assistance to passengers.

The company also damaged thousands of wheelchairs from 2019 to 2023 with the U.S. Department of Transportation saying in some cases, people who used them were even hurt.

The airline says it has made significant investments towards improving the handling of wheelchairs.
