(ABC 6 News) – The University of Minnesota Rochester garnered national attention for its commitment to community, earning the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement.
The Carnegie Foundation Awarded UMR for it’s inclusion of the community on their campus and curriculum.
“There are great needs here, and there is a lot to learn from a variety of communities,” said UMR Chancellor Lori Carrel. “And this work is reciprocal and that, yes, our students are engaging, but they are also learning.”
UMR was one of 357 schools in the nation running for the award.
Every campus in the U of M system has won this distinction in the past. However, UMR’s win marks the first and only time every school in a university system earned the award.
