(ABC 6 News) – A cyberattack crippled a major health insurance company’s digital network last week.
Change Healthcare says they took immediate action, but thousands of pharmacies are still seeing disruptions to filling prescriptions.
“You potentially get into life and death scenarios where patients can’t gain health care or in this case, patients can’t gain access to prescription medication,” said Scott Spiro, a co-founder of Sugarshot, a California-based IT company.
Pharmacies use Change’s network to verify insurance coverage, including Olmsted Medical Center. OMC asked patients not to fill prescriptions unless their need was urgent.
OMC has yet to provide an update on whether their systems are still seeing disruptions.
