(ABC 6 News) – It’s a big day for Channel One Regional Food Bank. They got a big donation of milk, and the community came together to make it happen.
Channel One Regional Food Bank got 24,000 units of the Giving Cow Milk. They’re going to go directly back into the community to help people battle against food insecurity.
“A Milk Donation is a perfect donation,” Virginia Merritt, executive director at Channel One Regional Food Bank said.
It’s a moment that will always be remembered. Hy-Vee in partnership with Kemps is giving Channel One Regional Food Bank milk to be distributed to its network of 167 food shelves, pantries and programs.
“Hy-Vee wants to be a company of purpose, and part of our purpose is always supporting our community,” Chad Hartogh, District Director for Hy-Vee said.
“Channel One has seen locally a 40 perfect increase in shopping at our food shelf and we’re seeing similar numbers across our 14 county region,” Merritt said.
This milk is shelf stable. Meaning it can be in a home for up to a year. Fresh Milk can only be in the refrigerator for approximately 20 days from processing. The long term impact for a family is here, they can utilize the milk whenever they can.
“They might mix it in their cereal for breakfast, or add it to Macaroni and cheese,” Merritt said.
With this donation it means that Channel One is going to continue to give back, no matter what to help people in need.
