Downtown Dazzle event coming to downtown Rochester
(ABC 6 News) – A committee led by Rochester-area leaders and business owners will put together a family-friendly event, believed to be the first of its kind in the Med City.
Downtown Dazzle: Feel the Magic of the Season, would take place in the first week of December and would include a lighted holiday parade and a city “social dazzle celebration” in Peace Plaza.
From light-up floats to chorus singing groups, the organizing committee are pulling out all the stops to establish what they hope will become an annual event.
In a press conference held Wednesday, the committee announced the event itself is privately funded.
They say, because nonprofits throughout Rochester give back so much, their group is more than happy to do the same.
“The biggest thing we wanna do with this is make sure everyone is included somehow. So, in year one, we feel this is the best way we can go back to [supporting] those particular nonprofits that have done so well for us for a long time,” said event organizer, Brad Trahan.
Trahan goes on to say, “you talk about creating magic in our community: think about our non-profits in any sector, they create magic for individuals and people each and every day.”
Some additional festivities include chorus singing outside Saint Mary’s Hospital, pictures with Santa, and a toy wishing tree, with all gifts being donated to the local Toys for Tots.
The event will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
